This site was designed to introduce the herb garden at Surratt House Museum, and to provide information about the herbs that grow there. By providing links to other sites as well, we hope to encourage people to learn more about herbs. The links are rich sources of information about all kinds of herbs, how they are cultivated, harvested, preserved and used in culinary and medicinal applications, and the important role they have had since prehistoric times.
This site is divided into these sections: A Walk in the Garden at Surratt House -- A picture of the garden and inventory of the herbs planted there. Herb Descriptions -- This page includes pictures and brief descriptions of some of the herbs that grow in the Surratt House Museum garden. Herbs In General -- A brief history of herbs and how they are organized into Medicinal, Culinary and Aromatic categories. Hilltop Garden Club -- This page provides some information about the Hilltop Garden Club in appreciation of their efforts at Surratt House Museum. Links to Other Sites -- Lists of links that have been especially helpful in the development of this page. |
