Surratt Society & Surratt House Museum leaf 2012 Conference—Law & Order, L.A. [Lincoln’s Assassination]

WAR COMES TO MARYLAND TOUR

(A Special Bus Tour)
Sunday, March 18, 2012
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
This tour departs from Colony South Hotel
The cost of this trip will be $90 per person and includes lunch. First preference will be given to those who have registered for the full conference. We will leave from the Colony South Hotel promptly at 8:30 a.m.
As we close out our 2012 Conference, we will travel to nearby Baltimore, where we will put on our sea legs and climb aboard the U.S.S. Constellation for a guided tour with Paul O’Neill on this 1854 sloop-of-war (or corvette). This is the second vessel to bear the name, the last Civil War vessel still afloat, and the last all-sail warship built by the United States Navy. Our guide will tell of its missions to disrupt the slave trade in the 1850s and its role in delivering famine relief aid to Ireland before our country entered into civil war.
After a hearty lunch at Capt. James Landing in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, we will visit The Maryland Historical Society for a guided tour focusing on their highly acclaimed exhibit, Divided Voices: Maryland in the Civil War. The impact of the war on the people of Maryland is told in personal terms, relating the story of the tragedy in three acts – the romantic war, the real war, and the long reunion.
Included in this exhibit is a “Time Tunnel” with 3-D videos leading visitors back to 1861. Live actors also perform short vignettes of major events that took place in Maryland during the Civil War.
This display is the largest in the 167-year history of The Maryland Historical Society and encompasses over 5,000 square feet. It is not to be missed.
The bus will return to Colony South Hotel by approximately 5 pm. Note: This tour will require a choice of lunch selections. These choices will be listed on the confirmation slip or e-mail that you receive once you have registered. It is your responsibility to reply to the choice no later than March 10, 2012.
IF INTERESTED IN THIS TRIP, PLEASE CHECK ACCORDINGLY ON THE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FORM ENCLOSED IN THIS PACKET OF INFORMATION. NOTE THAT THIS TRIP IS PRICED SEPARATELY FROM THE CONFERENCE FEE.
